About the Bride and Groom 
Marla was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Northwestern University in 2006 and then moved to Charlotte to get her Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She is currently finishing her PhD in Organizational Science. Marla is working part-time in the Leadership & Organizational Development department at Carolinas HealthCare System until she finishes her degree. When she is not writing her dissertation, Marla enjoys hiking in the mountains with John and Jedi, reading, and hanging out with her friends.
John was born and raised in Charlotte and was a track and cross-country super star all throughout high school. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2006. He now works at TIAA-CREF. John enjoys running, playing video games, doing anything outside and watching Chapel Hill basketball. Go ‘Heels!
How We Met 
We met in November of 2008 at a mutual friend’s birthday party. John impressed Marla with his ability to eat massive quantities of sushi in one sitting. A week later he called and asked her out. We’ve been dating ever since!
How We Got Engaged
On November 23, 2010, Marla and John celebrated their two year anniversary. The following day, they set off to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving. John braved the holiday with 25 of Marla’s relatives. He couldn’t get her alone until Saturday! They took a walk through the field behind her house. When they were almost back home, John dropped to one knee and asked Marla to marry him. All Marla could do was nod ‘yes.’ They spent the day celebrating at the Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma football game!
